Every 10 meters or so of every main road in Hoi An you can see a big sign with 3 letters S P A! mostly you can get a back massage or foot massage there, sometimes some kind of nail treatment. I don't mind so many spas but what I mind is the quality of service there.

All of those street spas are quite cheap if you convert to european money, you can get your foot massage for 90k which is like 4$. And what can you expect for this money? You get what you pay for, right? NO! you should get a proper foot massage. If a place provides that service then the quality should be good.

And now the math. Tripadvisor search of 'spa in hoi an' suggest 266 places and those are the noticeable places I am sure there are many more of those. In every place there is at least 1 person working and I would guess 3-5 on average because I see them through the window (sometimes there are places with like 10 chairs for foot massage and there are 2 people rubbing 1 guy's feet. My question is simple : " where all those spa therapists come from"? I did some thinking and ended up to the conclusion that most of them (the majority) comes from the youtube university and it is best case scenario. I am pretty sure that most of the people working at those small street "spas" have little to no idea what a massage is. So the best case if they have seen a video on youtube how to do a back rub or a foot rub and then they are good to go working in a spa!

Alena is not trusting those places and I don't blame her - we can them massage factory. You rarely can relax there and you rarely get an ok experience. We prefer to go to a more expensive place and pay good money but get a really good massage and experience. Good money here is about 30 euro for 1 hour massage. We ended up going to "la siesta" spa, which we visited 3 years ago and did so this time too. no regrets :)
