We spend a lot of time in the malls in Georgetown (there are many), because it is hot outside from around 12 to 3-4pm. Malls have a lot of space, many different thing to do (besides shopping) and it is cool (fresh, sometimes too cool).
What i have noticed spending so much time in the malls is the amount of "free stuff" one can gain by shopping. Almost every store has some kind of loyalty program where you get 10% off on anything. Then many stores have things like spend 300 MYR or more and get XYZ for free. Then some places have cashback. I spoke with some salesmen and it seems that cashback is getting more and more popular.
There are many apps which you can use to pay in stores and get money back (like we have SEQR in Sweden).
I wonder if it has something to do with the level of living.
We have installed the "FAVE" app which I used today already:).
FIRST of all I used it to pay with card (you hook up the card to the app), and then you can pay any amount even 5MYR. Many shops only take cards if you spend more than 50MYR per purchase.
And SECOND when you pay with the Fave app you get 10-20% money back to be used in the same shop during next visit.
PS Fave is actually groupon (used to be groupon). One can also get a lot of deals in the app for like 2 hours massage for like 80 sek :)
