2 days ago Alisa started going to kindergarten in Vietnam (here in Hoi An). We were thinking about it for a while because we thought that she lacks interaction with other children her age, she usually spends whole day with us or with one of us. So the main goal of a kindergarten was to improve social interactions of Alisa and see how she reacts to them.
We know that she is very social person and she easily contacts new people but still whole day without parents and with strangers ... We didn't know how she would react.
There are a few kindergartens here and some international ones. We just stopped by one went in to ask about a group we can join for a couple of months and they were ready to accept Alisa on the spot. Very surprising for us was the fact that no paperwork is needed to be accepted - only some kind of 'application' from a parent with details like name, age, nationality and phone number of the parents. 1 day at that KG costs 200k dong which is about 70sek. Not too much and I think we can afford it, besides it is a good approach to pay by day so we are free to go to Saigon in a couple of weeks.
One other thing that we thought is interesting is that there is one teacher per group and the teacher spends the whole day with the group, so 7 to 17 with the same kids of 1.5-3 y.o. (I would be crazy in 1 week). There is also a drop-in teacher for English language for a couple hours /day but I don't know how much English can be taught to a 1.5 y.o Alisa :). We also asked the Vietnamese teacher to speak Vietnamese to Alisa, maybe she will get used to intonations ...
I am also a bit skeptical regarding the quality of education. It seemed to me that the kindergarten is more like a babysitting service rather than education institution. But who am I to judge!
Anyway it seems that Alisa is enjoying the time in a company of same aged kids and she doesn't miss us much during the day. We on the other hand miss her a lot and we are still surprised about the amount of extra time we got on our hands :)
